The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), one of only two federally operated school systems, is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and managing pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade educational programs for the Department of Defense (DoD). Globally positioned, DoDEA operates 160 accredited schools in 9 districts located in 11 foreign countries, 7 states, Guam, and Puerto Rico, employing approximately 11,828 staff members to serve over 69,000 children of active-duty military and DoD civilian families. Ramey Unit School, part of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), is located on 20 acres in northwest Puerto Rico near Aguadilla.
