The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) is an independent agency in the executive branch of the Federal government. The RRB’s primary function is to administer comprehensive retirement, survivor, unemployment and sickness insurance benefit programs for railroad workers and their families under the Railroad Retirement Act and the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Act. These programs provide income protection during old age in the event of disability, death, temporary unemployment, and sickness.
